Both those affected by migraine headaches and those who live or work in close proximity to migraine victims understand the severity of migraine attacks. For sufferers, it is often extremely difficult to function on any level while experiencing the extreme pain. Migraines are a serious condition for people throughout the New York metropolitan area. It is believed that throughout the world, nearly 15 percent of humans suffer from migraine headaches. For those suffering from chronic migraine attacks, it may be hard to work or do anything productive during the attacks.

It’s not uncommon for migraine sufferers to experience light sensitivity. In fact, according to researchers at a major research hospital, 80 percent of suffers also suffer what’s known as photophobia, or light sensitivity. A new study determined that different colors affect migraine suffers differently.

While shades of blue on the light spectrum seemed to intensify pain, low-intensity green lights seemed to ease the pain by up to 20 percent. The study involved 69 participants and migraine sufferers. The next step might be for researchers to develop low-cost light bulbs that emit the soothing green light and to develop sunglasses that block all but the helpful green light to a sufferer’s eyes.

Although occasional migraine headaches generally will not qualify a person for Social Security Disability benefits, with a well-documented history of chronic migraine attacks may be considered a qualifying mental condition. You may want to speak with a law professional familiar with Social Security Disability benefits for further information and guidance.
