Social Security blog releases stats on disability insurance

The Social Security Administration over the past few years has taken additional action to reach out to Americans and keep them informed of the services that the administration has to offer. They have an active Twitter account and Facebook page, and they offer additional updates and information through their blog, Social Security Matters. With recent discussion about the finances in the political realm during the presidential election and how President elect Donald Trump and his administration will affect the dozens of departments and administrations during his time as President, the Social Security Administration's recent release of statistics comes as a welcome surprise. The statistics which show the worth and value the administration has on millions of Americans are worth sharing.

The Social Security Administration admits that disability payments are modest, but still do help families financially. In fact, as of September of this year, Americans receive $11.9 billion dollars in benefits monthly, and approximately $143 billion dollars annually.

The beneficiaries are varied as well, and extends beyond that of injured workers. The Social Security Administration offers 1.6 million children disability benefits, averaging $352.25 per month. Over 136,145 spouses receive benefits, averaging $323.26 per month. Disabled workers collect the most, averaging $1,166.51 per month.

There are over 8.8 million disabled workers in the United States, and over 10.6 million Americans in total who collect disability insurance. Any worker with an injury, illness, or mental condition that is expected to last at least a year or end in death and prevents them from seeking and maintaining gainful employment may be entitled to Social Security Disability benefits, and as you can see, the number of beneficiaries is substantial.
