Summer and fall travel increases auto accident injuries

It's not uncommon for families to hit the road during the summer months for a family vacation. Whether you're heading into the woods or out to the beach, it is important to drive safely. With automobile accidents common due to distracted driving, which include texting while driving, many accident victims are left with serious injuries. Injuries such as spinal or neck injuries and traumatic brain injuries can lead to significant or even life-long disabilities.

The Social Security Administration has various programs to help Americans who are suffering from such injuries. If your injury is expected to last at least a year or end in death and is prohibiting you from seeking and maintaining gainful employment, you may be entitled to Social Security Disability benefits to help.

Social Security disability benefits are not expected to fully pay for medical or rehabilitation costs, but are designed to financially help you while you are out of work. You may apply for the program off their website, in person at one of their regional offices or by mail.

When filling out the forms, you will have to prove your disability. This may mean you need to provide documentation of your medical history, including doctors visits and hospital stays, as well as a list of prescriptions and notes from doctors and medical professionals proving the severity of your disabling injury.

The Social Security Administration has resources online to help you fill out the forms, but you may want to speak with a legal professional if you are uncertain or not confident that your paperwork has been filled out properly. It is far easier to do it right the first time, rather than go through a lengthy appeals process if your original claim is rejected.
