Navigating your Social Security Disability benefits claim

Tragedies, accidents and serious illnesses can strike anyone at any time. As a result, many Americans, including many New York residents, live every day with debilitating disabilities that can be difficult to overcome.

To help address these disabilities and the financial burdens often associated with them, the Social Security Administration has various programs designed to help New York residents deal with these disabling conditions. New York residents may qualify for either Social Security Disability Insurance, otherwise known as SSDI, or Supplemental Security Income, otherwise known as SSI.

The SSDI program is paid for through contributions employees make into their payroll taxes, and is only available for those who have paid into the program. The SSI program is designed for people who do not qualify for SSDI programs, and who fall under certain income thresholds. The programs are designed to cover many forms of disabilities, including but not limited to: mental conditions, such as depression; physical injuries, such as spinal or brain injuries; and illnesses, such as cancer or heart disease.

At our Long Island-based law firm, we work with clients to help them traverse the often confusing and intimidating Social Security Disability benefits system. We work together with our clients to address specific needs and determine how we can best help our clients obtain the benefits they need and deserve. Such situations involving debilitating injuries can be very stressful to go through. Seeking the help of an experienced attorney can help iron out a logical plan of action that will hopefully end in proper assistance.
